TEST 22.
Yesterday was my fourteenth birthday. Father and Mother gave a nice patty for me. Five of my friends came to the party. Each of them gave me a wonderful present. Mother made me a big cake. Father bought me a bicycle. I was so excited that I could hardly sleep last night. I am going to go out by bicycle this afternoon.
TEST 23.
Jane was very sorry that it was raining. She had planned to go on a picnic with her class at school. "Mother," said Jane, "I just hate rain, don't you?" Mother smiledd and asked, "Did you ever think of all the good the rain does? Do you remember what happened to your garden last year when you forgot to water it? How about the swimming pool at Grandma's when it has not rained for a long time? No person or plant is happy for very long without rain." Jane was quiet a moment and then said, "Oh, Mother, I think the rain is doing good after all, even if it did spoil our picnic. We can plan another one for a sunny day."
TEST 24.
Yesterday Tom had no work to do after lunch. So his father asked him to go to the book-store to buy a few books. He hurried to the bus-stop and arrived there at three. When he was waiting for a bus, he saw a little dog. It was going across the street. Just then a car came, running fast. But it was too last. The dog fell down and did not move.
"Poor dog!" he cried. But look! Suddenly it stood up and went away.
He was very glad to find that it was safe.
